| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of Otacilia Severa facing right, her hair arranged in waves drawn back to a bun at the nape, adorned with a diadem. The empress wears a paludamentum or imperial mantle secured at the shoulder, rendered with fine drapery folds visible at the truncation. The Greek imperial legend surrounds the portrait, partially visible on the flan, identifying the Augusta by her titulature. The portrait style is characteristic of Alexandrian tetradrachm coinage of the mid-3rd century AD, exhibiting the somewhat schematic but dignified treatment typical of the local mint. |
