Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Maximinus I Thrax facing right, seen from the rear, with the paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The obverse legend in Greek characters encircles the effigy, reading ΑΥΤΟ ΜΑΞΙΜΙΝΟϹ ΕΥ(Ϲ) ϹΕΒ, identifying the emperor with his imperial titles. The portrait displays the characteristic strong, broad features associated with Maximinus, rendered in the provincial Alexandrian style. The engraving is typical of the Alexandrian mint's tetradrachm coinage of the third century AD.
