| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, seen from the front, with paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The imperial effigy displays youthful features characteristic of Gordian III's Alexandrian portraiture. The Greek legend encircles the bust in the field, reading Α Κ Μ ΑΝ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΕΥϹ, abbreviating his imperial titulature. The flan is irregular and somewhat ragged at the edge, typical of Alexandrian billon tetradrachms of this period. |
