Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, seen from the front, rendered in the provincial Alexandrian style. The emperor's youthful features are framed by a radiate wreath of laurel. The encircling Greek legend reads Α Κ Μ ΑΝ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΕΥϹ(Ε), denoting his imperial titles as Augustus and Pious. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show typical patination consistent with billon tetradrachms of the Alexandrian mint.
