| Obverse description | Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of the emperor Gordian III facing right, as seen from a three-quarter front perspective, the paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder. A circular Greek legend surrounds the imperial effigy, reading Α Κ Μ ΑΝ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΕΥϹ(Ε)(Β), rendering his titulature as Augustus with the epithets of piety. The portrait exhibits the characteristic youthful features of Gordian III consistent with Alexandrian tetradrachm coinage of his reign. |
