| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted three-quarter from the rear, with paludamentum visible on the left shoulder. The imperial effigy displays youthful features consistent with Alexandrian provincial portraiture of the early reign. The surrounding Greek legend reads partially ΑΚΜΑΝ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΕΥϹΕ, identifying the emperor with his titles. The flan is irregular, as is typical of Alexandrian billon tetradrachms of this period, with a beaded border encircling the design. |
