| Obverse description | Bare-headed and laureate bust of Antoninus Pius facing right, with short beard, the emperor depicted in mature effigy consistent with Alexandrian tetradrachm portraiture of his reign. The circular Greek legend surrounds the portrait in the field, reading ΑΝΤΩΝΙΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ ΕΥϹΕΒ. The style is characteristic of the Alexandrian mint workshop, with broad flan and slightly uneven fabric typical of billon tetradrachms of this period. |
