Additional information

Year 17 of Antoninus Pius's reign — the Egyptian regnal year running from late 153 into 154 AD — falls squarely within one of the most administratively stable periods Alexandria's mint ever operated. The billon tetradrachm series ran with remarkable consistency under Pius, whose 23-year reign gave the Alexandrian die-cutters an unusual continuity of purpose. Emmett 1877.17 is among the better-documented emissions of this year, cross-referenced by both Dattari and the Cologne corpus without significant die discrepancies noted between them.
