| Reverse description | Laureate head of Zeus facing right, rendered with full, flowing beard and voluminous hair in the classical Hellenistic tradition, with drapery visible on the left shoulder. The god's majestic, bearded visage is deeply modelled in high relief, reflecting the accomplished die-cutting of the Alexandrian mint. To the left of the head appears the regnal year indicator L (the Egyptian etos symbol), and to the right the numeral Ε (5), denoting regnal year 5 of Gordian III, corresponding to 241–242 AD. The reverse field is otherwise plain, focusing full attention on the divine portrait. |
