| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the front, with the paludamentum fastened at the shoulder and armour clearly articulated on the chest. The imperial effigy is portrayed in the Alexandrian provincial style, with bold, slightly schematic modelling typical of mid-third-century Egyptian tetradrachms. A Greek imperial legend encircles the bust along the beaded border of the flan. |
