| Obverse description | Bare-headed draped bust of Marcus Aurelius as Caesar, facing right, with short curly beard and paludamentum visible at the truncation. The portrait displays the characteristic youthful yet bearded features associated with Marcus Aurelius during the co-reign under Antoninus Pius. The Greek legend Μ ΑΥΡΗΛΙϹ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ runs around the periphery of the flan. The coin is struck on a broad, irregularly shaped billon flan typical of Alexandrian provincial coinage of this period. |
