| Obverse description | Draped bust of Faustina II facing right, with elaborate hairstyle dressed in waves and coiled at the nape, as characteristic of Alexandrian portraiture of the period. The effigy is rendered in the provincial Egyptian style, with the drapery visible at the truncation. The encircling Greek legend reads ΦΑΥϹΤΙΝΑ ϹΕΒΑϹϹΤΗ, identifying the empress as Augusta. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hand-struck billon tetradrachms of the Alexandrian mint. |
