Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Maximian facing right, portrayed in three-quarter rear view, a common Alexandrian stylistic convention of the Tetrarchic period. The emperor's laurel wreath, paludamentum, and cuirass are rendered in low relief characteristic of late third-century provincial coinage. The encircling Greek legend reads Α Κ ΜΑ ΟΥΑ ΜΑΞΙΜΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ, identifying the ruler as Augustus. The overall style reflects the distinctive artistic idiom of the Alexandrian mint under the Tetrarchy.
