Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Maximian facing right, seen from the rear, with paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The emperor is portrayed in the Tetrarchic military style, with a radiate or laureate crown and robust features characteristic of Alexandrian imperial portraiture. The encircling Greek legend reads ΜΑΞΙΜΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ, identifying the emperor as Augustus. The flan is irregular and slightly scalloped at the edges, typical of late Roman Alexandrian tetradrachms.
