| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Maximian facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the rear in the distinctive Alexandrian style. The emperor's effigy displays the radiate laurel wreath atop short-cropped hair, with the paludamentum fastened at the shoulder clearly visible. The obverse legend ΜΑΞΙΜΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ encircles the bust, identifying the emperor as Augustus. The flan is irregular, characteristic of late third-century Alexandrian billon tetradrachm production. |
