Obverse description Radiate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Diocletian facing right, depicted three-quarters from the front, with the imperial radiate crown clearly visible. The effigy shows the emperor in military cuirass, conveying imperial authority. The Greek legend ΔΙΟΚΛΗΤΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ (Diocletianus Sebastos) runs around the periphery of the flan. The style is characteristic of the Alexandrian potin/billon tetradrachm coinage of the late third century AD, with a slightly irregular flan edge.
