The emperor is depicted in military dress with paludamentum, rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Alexandrian tetradrachm coinage. The Greek legend ΜΑΞΙΜΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ ('Maximianus Augustus') encircles the effigy, running from lower left to upper right around the periphery of the flan.
