| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Maximian facing right, seen from the rear, with the emperor's armor and paludamentum rendered in relief. The legend encircles the bust along the beaded border, reading Α Κ Μ ΟΥΑ ΜΑΞΙΜΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ, identifying the emperor as Augustus. The portrait displays the characteristic vigorous, slightly rough style of Alexandrian billon tetradrachm production of the Tetrarchic period. |

| Reverse description | Nike, the goddess of victory, advancing briskly to the right, rendered in flowing drapery with wings spread. She holds a wreath extended in her right hand and a tall palm branch in her left. A star appears in the field to the left or right. The regnal year legend L Γ (Year 3, corresponding to 287–288 AD) is inscribed in the field, a hallmark of Alexandrian tetradrachm dating convention. |
