| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Maximian facing right, seen from the rear, with the emperor's armor and paludamentum rendered in relief. The legend encircles the bust along the beaded border, reading Α Κ Μ ΟΥΑ ΜΑΞΙΜΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ, identifying the emperor as Augustus. The portrait displays the characteristic vigorous, slightly rough style of Alexandrian billon tetradrachm production of the Tetrarchic period. |
