| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Maximian facing right, presented in three-quarter view from the rear, with the paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The emperor's radiate or laureate wreath frames a strong, bearded profile. The peripheral legend ΜΑΞΙΜΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ runs around the bust, identifying the ruler as Augustus. The flan is irregular and shows typical characteristics of late third-century Alexandrian billon tetradrachm production. |

| Reverse description | Standing figure of Elpis (the personification of Hope) advancing to the left, rendered in flowing drapery. She raises her skirt with her right hand and holds a flower or budding lotus in her left hand, attributes characteristic of her iconographic type in Alexandrian coinage. A star appears in the field to the left or right, serving as a mint control mark. The regnal date L ΕΝΑΤΟΥ and workshop letter Γ are inscribed in the field, denoting the ninth year of Diocletian's reign and the third workshop of the Alexandria mint. |
