Obverse description Bare head of Emperor Caligula (Gaius Julius Caesar Germanicus) facing right, rendered in fine high relief with naturalistic portraiture typical of early Julio-Claudian provincial coinage. The hair is depicted in short, tightly curled locks swept forward over the brow. The circular Latin legend runs around the periphery of the flan, divided on either side of the portrait.
