| Obverse description | Draped bust of Faustina II, wife of Marcus Aurelius, facing right, wearing a stephane and with elaborately waved and coiled hair. The effigy is rendered in the provincial Greek style characteristic of Mesopotamian coinage. A beaded border frames the design. The Greek legend ΦΑΥϹΤΙΝΑ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΗ runs around the periphery, with the alpha characters rendered in the distinctive lambda (Λ) form typical of this Carrhae issue. |
