| Obverse description | Bare-headed, bearded bust of Marcus Aurelius, draped and cuirassed, facing right, with characteristically dense curling hair rendered in the provincial style. The emperor's portrait is depicted in high relief with bold, somewhat schematic modelling typical of Mesopotamian provincial coinage. The circular Greek legend surrounds the effigy, with the alpha characters rendered as lambda forms, a distinctive epigraphic feature of this mint. The truncation of the bust is visible at the lower field. |
