| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Diocletian facing right, portrayed with characteristic close-cropped hair beneath the radiate crown, the attribute distinguishing the antoninianus denomination. The cuirass is rendered with detailed musculature and the paludamentum is fastened at the shoulder, conveying imperial military authority. The surrounding Latin legend reads IMP C C VAL DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG, disposed clockwise around the periphery of the flan. The die engraving, consistent with the Tripolis mint style of the late third century, displays bold, somewhat provincial workmanship. The coin exhibits characteristic surface wear and a patina typical of late Roman billon coinage. |
