| Obverse description | Crude radiate and draped bust of Claudius II facing right, executed in the debased barbarous style characteristic of unofficial imitative coinage. The radiate crown is suggested by schematic spikes above the head, and the drapery over the shoulder is rendered in simplified, stylised strokes. A peripheral legend is present but largely illegible, consisting of degenerate pseudo-Latin letterforms imitating the imperial titulature. The overall workmanship reflects the poor die-cutting quality typical of barbarous radiates, with uneven flan edges and pronounced surface patination. The coin is covered in a thick green cuprite and malachite patina with areas of exposed bronze substrate. |
