| Reverse description | A floriated cross occupies the central field, with an annelet terminating each arm, and a passant lion in each of the four angles formed by the cross. The entire composition is set within a polylobe border, with eight small trefoils placed in the exterior angles of the lobes, lending the design an ornate Gothic character consistent with Flemish gold coinage of the late 14th century. The surrounding peripheral legend in Gothic uncial script carries the devotional inscription from the Gospel of John, invoking a blessing upon him who comes in the name of the Lord. |
