| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with a diademed and draped bust, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left field, and ISLE OF MAN arcs along the upper right field. The year of issue appears at the lower right, with the engraver's initials IRB truncated at the base of the bust. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the crown and hair, set against a polished field. |

| Reverse description | Central depiction of the Archangel Michael in dynamic pose, armoured and winged, thrusting a lance downward to vanquish a dragon coiled beneath him. A halo is shown above the Archangel's head, and the composition closely follows the classical Angel gold coin tradition originating with medieval English coinage. In the lower exergue, the inscription AU.999.9 1/4 OUNCE arcs above the word ANGEL, which is displayed prominently in larger lettering along the base of the design. The reverse field is finely textured, enhancing the sculptural quality of the central motif. |
