Obverse description Hammered silver akçe struck at the Baghdad mint during the reign of Sultan Selim II. The obverse field bears a multi-line Arabic legend in stylized thuluth script reading the sultan's name and titles: 'Selim Shah ibn Suleiman Shah Khan / May his victory be glorified / Struck in Baghdad 974.' The script is arranged in stacked horizontal registers across the irregular flan, characteristic of Ottoman hammered coinage of the sixteenth century. The flat, unstruck periphery shows the typical irregular edge of a hand-cut planchet.

Reverse description The reverse displays the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) arranged in two lines of Arabic thuluth script within a double-line circular border, a standard device on Ottoman akçe coinage of this period. The upper line reads 'La ilaha illa Allah' (There is no god but God) and the lower line reads 'Muhammad rasul Allah' (Muhammad is the messenger of God). The legends are boldly engraved and fill the central field, with the irregular flan edge visible at the periphery. The overall style is consistent with mid-sixteenth-century Ottoman mint practice.
