Obverse description Central field bearing the Arabic legend of the Sultan's name and titulature arranged in two or three lines, reading 'Sultan Murad bin Selim' (Sultan Murad III, son of Selim II). The script is rendered in a bold, characteristic Ottoman calligraphic style typical of hammered akçe coinage. A dotted border or linear circle frames the central inscription. The flan is irregular in shape, as is customary for hammered Ottoman silver of this period.
