Reverse description A quadrilobe cross, elaborately decorated with trefoil leaves and fleurs-de-lis terminals at each arm, is set within a quadrilobe frame, the spandrels between the lobes each filled with a fleur-de-lis. The overall composition is rendered in a refined Gothic style characteristic of Capetian royal goldsmithing. The surrounding legend, in Gothic lettering, bears the Christus vincit acclamation affirming Christ's universal dominion. The design is typical of the agnel d'or coinage introduced under Philippe IV and continued by his successors.
