| Obverse description | Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, viewed from the front, rendered in the typical provincial Roman style. The imperial effigy displays a radiate wreath of laurel and military dress with visible paludamentum draped over the cuirass. The encircling Greek legend runs along the border of the flan, identifying the emperor by his full imperial titulature. The flan is large and irregularly shaped, characteristic of the Ephesian civic coinage of the period. The surface shows significant patination with green and red encrustation consistent with ancient burial. |
