| Obverse description | Draped and corn-wreathed bust of Kore Soteira, facing right, wearing a necklace; the divine effigy is assimilated to the portrait type of Faustina II, reflecting the common provincial practice of associating imperial and divine imagery. The legend encircling the bust identifies the deity as the saviour goddess of Cyzicus. The portrait style is characteristic of Asia Minor civic coinage of the Antonine period, rendered in high relief with careful attention to the drapery folds and the corn-wreath attribute emblematic of Kore-Persephone in her role as goddess of grain and salvation. |
