Reverse description Elaborate sacrificial scene set before a hexastyle temple. At left, the togate figure of Caracalla stands facing right, extending a patera in his right hand and holding a roll in his left; before him, a victimarius stands facing left, raising a mallet to strike a humped bull standing right. Beyond the sacrificial group, a hexastyle temple is depicted in perspective, its colonnade enclosing a frontal figure of Asclepius holding his serpent-entwined staff. The composition reflects Pergamum's prestigious status as a three-time neocorate city and its celebrated association with the cult of Asclepius.
