| Obverse description | Corn-wreathed and draped bust of Kore Soteira facing right, her features assimilated to those of Faustina II, adorned with a necklace. The elaborate corn wreath is characteristic of the chthonic deity's iconography and reflects Cyzicus's strong ties to the Eleusinian mystery cult. The legend ΚΟΡΗ ϹΩΤΕΙΡΑ ΚΥΖΙΚΗΝΩΝ encircles the bust in the field, identifying her as the divine protectress of the Cyzicenes. |

The homonoia coinage between Cyzicus and Smyrna belongs to a competitive tradition among Asian Greek cities to advertise their alliances through shared coin issues — a practice that served municipal prestige as much as any practical diplomatic function. Quintus, named in the strategos formula on this piece, held authority over the Cyzicene conventus during the early years of Commodus, whose accession in 180 AD followed Marcus Aurelius's death on campaign at Vindobona.
At 44mm, this is among the largest module bronzes the Cyzicene mint produced, reserved for homonoia types specifically — the scale itself was part of the message.
