Additional information

Pergamum held the title of "twice neokoros" — twice temple warden of the imperial cult — a status fiercely contested among the great cities of Asia. The inclusion of strategus Claudianus Terpandrus in the inscription dates this issue administratively, tying it to a specific magistracy rather than simply a reign. Provincial bronze of this module was almost certainly civic rather than imperial in initiative, struck to facilitate local exchange and religious festival transactions at a scale Rome had no interest in managing.
