Obverse description Confronted busts of Septimius Severus and Caracalla: the laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus faces right and is seen from the rear, while the laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Caracalla faces left and is seen from the front. The two imperial effigies are juxtaposed in the characteristic provincial 'vis-à-vis' composition, a format commonly employed in the civic coinage of Asia Minor to emphasize dynastic legitimacy. A circular Greek legend surrounds the busts in the field.
