Obverse description Heroic bust of Emperor Commodus facing left, depicted with a long, full beard, laureate, and wearing the Nemean lion skin over his head and shoulders in the guise of Hercules (Heracles). The encircling legend in Greek identifies the emperor with his full titulature, incorporating the epithet 'Romaeus Heracles'. The portrait is rendered in the mature imperial style characteristic of Cyzicene civic bronze coinage of the late Antonine period.
