Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Caracalla facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the front, with a gorgoneion prominently displayed on the breastplate of the cuirass. The portrait displays the characteristic heavy features associated with Caracalla's later imperial coinage. The legend encircles the bust in Greek characters. The overall execution reflects the high-quality provincial die-cutting tradition of Pergamum, one of the most artistically distinguished mints of Roman Asia Minor.
