Reverse description Turreted Tyche, the civic goddess of Mytilene, seated left on a high-backed throne, her garments falling in naturalistic folds. In her right hand she extends a patera, while her left hand holds a Dionysiac herm, referencing the island's strong association with the cult of Dionysus. The legend naming the strategus M. Aurelius Proteus and the civic ethnic ΜΥΤΙΛΗΝΑΙΩΝ is arranged in the field and exergue around the figure. The style is consistent with the large-module provincial bronzes struck under the joint reign of Marcus Aurelius and Commodus.
