Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Septimius Severus facing right, seen from the rear, with the bearded portrait rendered in a vigorous provincial style. The emperor's laureate wreath is clearly articulated, and the drapery over the cuirass is rendered in bold relief. The encircling Greek legend runs along the border of the flan. The portrait exhibits the characteristic broad, bearded features associated with Severan provincial coinage from Ionia.
