Additional information

Year 19 of Trajan's reign coincided with his Parthian campaign — the furthest east any Roman emperor would ever push the empire's boundaries. Alexandria's mint was actively producing large bronze coinage throughout this period, supplying Egypt's monetized economy while the emperor was absent on campaign. The L ΙΘ date formula, stamped to indicate the regnal year, is characteristic of Alexandrian bronzes and reflects the Egyptian dating system rather than the Roman consular calendar.
