| Reverse description | Nude Heracles standing to the right, depicted in the act of subduing the man-eating Mares of Diomedes, the eighth labour of Heracles. The hero is shown holding his club in one hand while restraining one of the rearing horses with the other, in a dynamic and powerful composition. The reverse legend, distributed around the field, names the presiding archon Cornelius Menippos and identifies the issuing civic authority of Alinda. The scene is rendered in the bold, high-relief style characteristic of Carian provincial bronzes of the Severan period. |

Alinda was a Carian hill town whose civic coinage under the Severan dynasty consistently names local magistrates — here Menippos, whose title suggests a role approximating a civic commissioner overseeing the issue. These magistrate-named bronzes from the Alabanda conventus are poorly represented in major collections, and die studies remain incomplete. The fabric on surviving specimens tends toward uneven flan preparation, a product of local rather than regional mint infrastructure.
