| Obverse description | Laureate, cuirassed and paludamentum-draped bust of Emperor Marcus Aurelius facing right, rendered in high relief characteristic of Bithynian provincial coinage. The emperor is depicted bare-headed with the paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder over the cuirass. The encircling Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor by his full imperial titulature. The portrait displays the characteristic mature features of Marcus Aurelius with beard and strong facial modelling typical of the Antonine period. |
