Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, draped with paludamentum, facing right, seen from the centre; the emperor is depicted with a long beard rendered in short curls, characteristic of his mature portraiture. The obverse legend, disposed around the periphery of the flan, reads ΑΥ ΚΑΙ Μ ΑΥΡΗΛΙ ΑΝΤΩΝ ΑΡΜ, abbreviating his imperial titulature as Augustus, Caesar, Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, Armeniacus. The portrait style reflects the high-quality provincial die-cutting tradition of the Lydian conventus workshops under Pergamene administration.
