Reverse description Facing scene depicting two mythological figures clasping right hands (dexiosis) as a symbol of alliance between Cyzicus and Smyrna. To the left, the hero Kyzikos stands facing right, clad in military dress and holding a spear in his left hand. To the right, the Amazon Smyrna stands facing left, holding a double axe (labrys) in her raised right hand and a pelta (crescent shield) in her left. The composition emphasises the civic and mythological bond between the two cities, rendered in a bold provincial relief style. The reverse legend names both cities, with a notable epigraphic peculiarity in which the lunate sigma (Ϲ) is rendered in the form of a zeta (Ζ).
