| Reverse description | Hecate standing facing, her gaze turned to the left, wearing a kalathos (basket crown) upon her head. She holds a patera in her right hand and an upright torch in her left hand. A dog, sacred to Hecate, stands at her feet. The reverse legend in Greek encircles the type, naming the issuing city of Stratonicea and the presiding magistrate. The iconography reflects the significant local cult of Hecate, for which Stratonicea in Caria was a renowned religious centre. |
