| Reverse description | Faustina II, depicted as Fecunditas, stands facing with head turned to the right, cradling a pair of infant imperial twins — identified as Commodus and Titus Aurelius Fulvus Antoninus — in her arms. Flanking her on either side stand her four other children, arranged symmetrically in the field. The dedicatory legend ΑΤΤΑΛΟϹ ΦΩΚΑΙΕΥϹΙΝ ΑΝΕΘΗΚΕ, recording the benefaction of a local magistrate named Attalos to the citizens of Phocaea, is distributed around or across the field. The composition reflects the dynastic fertility iconography widely employed under Marcus Aurelius. The reverse is enclosed within a dotted border on an irregular broad bronze flan. |
