The dedicatory legend ΑΤΤΑΛΟϹ ΦΩΚΑΙΕΥϹΙΝ ΑΝΕΘΗΚΕ, recording the benefaction of a local magistrate named Attalos to the citizens of Phocaea, is distributed around or across the field. The composition reflects the dynastic fertility iconography widely employed under Marcus Aurelius. The reverse is enclosed within a dotted border on an irregular broad bronze flan. |
