Reverse description Asclepius, the god of medicine, seated to the left upon a throne, his robes draped about his lower body, extending his right hand to hold a patera and grasping in his left hand a serpent-entwined staff (kerykeion/asklepian). The figure is rendered in the classical Hellenistic tradition common to the civic coinage of Lesbos. The magistrate's name and civic ethnic appear in the exergue and surrounding field as a multi-line Greek legend, identifying the strategos M. Aurelius Proteus as the issuing authority of Mytilene.
