| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the rear, with paludamentum visible over the left shoulder and articulated muscle cuirass. The portrait displays characteristic youthful features of the emperor. A Greek imperial legend encircles the bust within a beaded border, reading ΑΥ ΚΑ ΜΑ ΑΝ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ, abbreviating his full imperial titulature. The relief is bold and the engraving displays the provincial workshop style typical of Carian civic bronzes of the mid-third century. |
