Additional information

Vitellius ruled for less than a year — proclaimed emperor by the Rhine legions in January 69 AD and dead by December, killed during the chaos of the Year of the Four Emperors. Alexandria, as the administrative and economic hub of Rome's most important grain province, was obliged to acknowledge each successive claimant, however briefly. This coin is that acknowledgment.

The dating to regnal year one is the only year possible. There was no year two.
