Additional information

Year 11 of Trajan's reign in Egypt — 107/108 AD — coincided with the final phase of the Dacian Wars, specifically the brutal second campaign that ended with Decebalus's suicide and the permanent annexation of Dacia as a Roman province. Alexandria's mint continued producing dated regnal-year bronzes throughout, its civic coinage running on a calendar entirely separate from Rome's. The L ΙΑ date notation, marking regnal year eleven by the Egyptian system, is the only reason this piece can be placed so precisely within Trajan's 19-year reign.
